The Department was created by Nick Hand as a home for design, photography and print.
The Department was created by Nick Hand as a home for design, photography and print. Self-initiated projects sit alongside collaborations and commissions that combine Nick’s skills in design, photography and print; as well as his ability to bring together a mix of creative talent to deliver projects.
Central to the work is the letterpress printshop which works from commissions and collaboration with artists and writers. The printshop also offers workshops and courses in letterpress printing.
Nick has made a large collection of bicycle journeys recording the lives of craftspeople.

The Department of Small Works and The Letterpress Collective are part of Centrespace, a cooperative organisation of artists and makers.
